TCGC to Host Flower Show
Celebrating Maryland’s Eastern Shore in June
Talbot Co. Garden Club to Host Eastern Shore Flower Show in Cambridge, June 18
Nine Eastern Shore garden clubs will participate in a National Garden Club (NGC) Standard Flower Show at The Packing House, 411 Dorchester Avenue, Cambridge, Maryland on Thursday June 18 from 1 to 4 pm. The public is invited to stroll through and enjoy this colorful free event in the historic Packing House.
“This show will showcase the magnificent beauty found in plant materials throughout the Eastern Shore” says Boots Michalak, show chair. Titled “Celebrating Maryland’s Eastern Shore,” the show encourages exhibitors – both expert and novice – to grow and utilize plants and fresh flowers to illustrate the variety of horticulture that flourishes on the Eastern Shore.
The show is hosted by the Talbot County Garden Club (Easton) with participation by eight other clubs in District 1 of the Federated Garden Clubs of Maryland (FGCMD). They are Chestertown Garden Club (Chestertown), Dorchester Garden Club (Cambridge), Four Seasons Garden Club (Salisbury), Kent Island Garden Club (Stevensville), Oxford Garden Club (Oxford), Queen Anne’s County Garden Club (Centreville), Somerset County Garden Club (Princess Anne), and Worcester County Garden Club (Berlin).
All exhibits will be judged by accredited NGC flower show judges, with awards placed according to the NGC Standard System in four divisions: Horticulture, Design, Education, and Youth. Judging takes place prior to the event so that visitors can view the winning arrangements and plant specimens.
“We have some extraordinary gardeners here on the Easton Shore” says Eleanor Denegre, president of the Talbot County Garden Club. “This event is an opportunity for them to share their talents.”
Since 1917, the Talbot County Garden Club has worked to enhance the beauty of the Eastern Shore by supporting civic greening projects, maintaining public gardens and other public spaces, sharing a deep knowledge of gardening, encouraging the conservation of natural resources, and fostering the art of flower arranging. Noteworthy projects include overseeing the gardens of the Talbot Historical Society, Talbot County Free Library (Easton) and the Fountain and Children’s Gardens in Idlewild Park. The club hosts garden-related outreach activities for students and people living with disabilities as well as offering free informational lectures for the general public. The club is celebrated for staging biennial Talbot County Tours as part of the Maryland House & Garden Pilgrimage, this year in celebration of AMERICA 250.

“HOLIDAYS!” 2025 Flower Show

Talbot County Garden Club’s “HOLIDAYS!” 2025 Flower Show on October 17 was a great success, with prime horticultural and design entries that represented our Eastern Shore of Maryland gardening and floral design expertise. While entries came primarily from TCGC’s talented gardeners and designers, members of 7 other Eastern Shore clubs also participated. And Young Gardeners (kindergarten to 8th grade) shared their enthusiasm and creativity with floral craft and design entries – TCGC’s first Flower Show to include competition by youngsters. Thank you to our organizers, entrants, and judges and to our plant-loving friends and neighbors who came to view and enjoy the Show.

Flower Shows
The Talbot County Garden Club periodically holds flower shows where members compete for awards in horticulture, design, and photography. It also participates in the biennial District 1 flower shows. The Club will host the District 1 show during the 2025-2027 term.
