Every year, Talbot County Garden Club presents a complimentary Lecture Series for its members and for the general public. Organized by the Program Committee, these expert lectures are held at the Talbot County Free Library in Easton, where they begin at 11:00 am.

Dr. Lesley Parness: The Final Act – Your Autumn Garden

There is no reason to simply succumb to pumpkins and potted mums come fall. Learn how to extend your garden’s floristic display by including plants that bloom from August through November. A selection of perennials, shrubs and trees that come into their own in autumn will be explored and a detailed plant list provided. Dr. Lesley Parness, a noted garden scholar, historian and writer will help us all develop a more creative and exciting garden plan for Fall 2027.

Jennifer Litterst: Designing with Orchids

An accomplished floral designer and former shop owner, Jennifer Litterst works in the Washington, DC area for a variety of private clients, including the White House. She will demonstrate clever ways to use orchids to decorate at home, creative ways to pot and display orchids using interesting vessels along with natural elements as accents, and tips for care and maintenance.

Noah Kegley: Highlighting a Sustainable Business in Our Community

A proud native of Talbot County and a popular fixture in our business community, Noah Kegley has been in the coffee business for 15 years and serves as Head Roaster and Partner of Rise Up Coffee. He will provide a brief history of Rise Up Coffee, and cover the global importance of coffee on both economic and social levels and why relationships with the growers in Central America are so important. Noah will illustrate the long journey from coffee bean to cup, and the special processing methods that give Rise Up its unique flavor profiles. He will also share Rise Up‘s work with The Coffee Trust, a non-profit focused on supporting indigenous Central American coffee farmers.

Tony Avent: 100 Perennials I Wouldn’t Live Without!

Founder of Plants Delights Nursery and Juniper Level Botanic Garden in Raleigh, NC, Tony Avent is an American horticulturist, plantsman, author, and plant explorer known for his dedication to botanical diversity and rare perennials. He established his business in 1986 to promote, preserve and share plant genetics. Avent developed a passion for plants as a child, exploring woods and fields to study wildflowers, and has since participated in more than 100 plant-hunting expeditions around the globe. He will share his extensive knowledge of perennials and gardening with us.

Emily Zobel: Tick Talk – What You Need to Know about Ticks in the Delmarva Region

Is the tick population on the rise or does it just feel that way? Lyme Disease has been on our minds for years, but recently we have been hearing about additional tick-borne illnesses and severe allergies that are affecting our neighbors. Emily Zobel of the University of Maryland Extension in Dorchester County will share an overview of tick biology, species found in Maryland, the multi-year tick lifecycle, tick food sources, and ways to reduce the risk of tick bites in the garden.
